Let me also add this old saying in reference to trying to “make" a man into a good partner when he truly is not a good fit for you: “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.”

I recently ended a relationship (which, truth be told, was more of a “situationship") of over two years with a man with whom I had very little in common. As often happens, it had been going downhill for some time. One day I was reminded of the “silk purse" saying and I kept that in mind and applied it to my now-former male companion.
