Great article!!
Yes, being asked that question is a bit intrusive and often very annoying. Back in the day (in my 20s) when I was asked that I’d think to myself, “C’mon people, really?!? It ain’t the 1950s anymore where people were usually married by age 20. Get with the freaking' program!” Women nowadays have so many more options (than did our mothers, grandmothers, etc.) and can — and often do-- build full, contented lives without a diamond on their left hand (yes, Virginia, it’s actually true!!! This much better to be single than be stuck in a crappy marriage you thought you “had" to be in to be a “whole" person…or whatever reason)) Hopefully those who are raising the younger generation of upcoming women will stress that (the fact that getting married isn’t a requirement anymore) to their daughters and encourage them to consider those options.
As a long-time divorcee, I often hear this very cringe-worthy line: “I can’t believe someone as cute/hot/attractive/whatever like you is single.” As if looks has anything to do with it. I personally can’t believe that people are still so narrow-minded in their ideas of “how people should live.”
Good article!
