When it comes to who we are as adults, our childhoods play a major role.

My son, like a lot of people, professes to not believe the above statement. “The past is play and we should not dwell there,” he says, and I do agree with him on that. I however do believe our adult selves are affected by “bad parenting”, partly because I’m one of the millions of people who has settled in too many relationships that were abusive in one way or another.

We live out what we learned in our original family whether or not we acknowledge it…unless we recognize the poor examples of partying from our families and seek to break the patterns (like I tried to do when raising my kid) of abuse, neglect, addictive behaviors, etc. Years of therapy, along with lots of reading of related books, has helped me greatly and I highly recommend it to others… like this author does.
