Yes, I can relate with this, having been in a similar situation as described in the first several paragraphs… several times. Mmostly when I was a lot younger. Now I know more of the “signs he’s not really into you” and move on more quickly that I did 20-some years ago. Interestingly I’ve never heard anything like this but the “two question rule” makes a LOT of sense and I’m going to remember this as I go forward in life as a (contented) singleton
